155 (Maidenhead) Squadron

155 (Maidenhead) Squadron is a well established unit with a rich history being the first Berkshire unit formed over 70 years ago. The Squadron is located near the town centre and we have strong links with the local community and take part in a wide range of activities including civic parades, local fetes, as well as the core ATC activities.

We always welcome new cadets and instructors to our team and hope to provide exciting and diverse opportunities for everyone.

Finalists for Thrive Awards Announced

The finalists for the Thames Valley Wing Thrive Awards have now been announced. The Awards fall into the following categories and all nominations came from their peers.

Outstanding Individual – The person who has made the most outstanding contribution over the past year.
Ambassador – The individual or team who through the virtue of hard work, character and representation have raised the profile of the ATC.
Valiant Volunteer – For consistent and extraordinary efforts in helping others, above and beyond the call of duty.
Unsung Hero – The individual whose contribution often goes unnoticed but without it their Squadron would fail to deliver the effect it achieves.

Maidenhead’s Busy Summer

It’s been a busy time at 155 (Maidenhead) Squadron with a wide range of activities taking place and plenty more planned for 2015.

From the 8th to 15th of July, 6 cadets and two staff from 155 Sqn attended the world famous Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford. Although the event is primarily 2 days, there are in excess of 800 ATC cadets and staff who live and work at the air base for a period of 8 days, assisting the RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises. 2014 AT Camp at NACATC Llanbedr

23 Cadets and 11 Staff from Thames Valley Wing organised and attended the 2014 Wing AT Camp at NACATC Llanbedr at the end of May.

After some careful planning and paperwork the week started with a journey to North Wales on a coach, after settling into the camp and receiving various briefs the Cadets and Staff were split into 3 groups. Alpine Adventure for Thames Cadets

On 14th February 2014, 33 Air Cadets and 9 staff from the South West Region, including the Thames Valley Wing Contingent of 3 staff and 10 cadets, set off for Alpine Adventure in Bavaria, Germany. The trip has been running in various forms for over 20 years, and provides cadets with the opportunity learn to ski or improve on their current level of skill, under the supervision of qualified ACO Alpine Ski Leaders. The coach made pickups in Exeter, Dorchester, Eastleigh, Chieveley, Langley and Maidstone en route to Dover. Continue reading

Annual Wing Training Day

Each January staff and staff cadets from across the wing gather at RAF Halton to attend the annual Wing Training Day. This provides the opportunity to find out the latest changes on subjects such as the ‘Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’ and syllabus training. Staff also reflect back on the previous year and look ahead to ensure that the cadet experience is been delivered to the best of the ability of squadrons and wing staff within Thames Valley. This year’s training day saw a visit by Gp Capt Cole from RAF Brize Norton who provided an insight into the RAF as it currently stands and updates on RAF Brize Norton with the introduction of the Voyager fleet and upcoming arrival of the Atlas fleet. Wing Bowling with Windsor

ach year Thames Valley Wing holds its Inter Squadron bowling competition at RAF Brize Norton where the squadrons get together before the Christmas break with each squadron been allowed to enter 2 teams. With the event always being a good day out for the cadets and staff this year’s event was no exception with everyone enjoying themselves and some good scores been achieved at the end of the day.

Successful Autumn camp at Linton-on-Ouse

During the October half term 28 cadets and 8 staff from Thames Valley Wing headed to RAF Linton-on-Ouse for their autumn camp on an operational, RAF station. It was a busy week for the cadets as they got to experience activities both on and off base, experience what life is like on an RAF station and meet new people with 17 of the wings squadrons been represented at the camp. For many of the cadets this was their first week long camp and were kept very busy with lots of activities and chance to discover what happens on an RAF base. Continue reading

TASER Expands To 143 Cadets Trained

On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October 2013 cadets from 155 (Maidenhead), 381 (Reading), 447 (Henley-on-Thames), 966 (Wallingford), 1861 (Wantage), 1996 (Early), 2210 (Cowley) and 2410 (Didcot) squadrons took part in the monthly TASER (Training And Shooting ExpeRience) weekend held at 447 (Henley-on-Thames) squadron.

The hugely successful weekend saw 19 cadets trained for the first time on the number 8 rifle meeting their first goal on the shooting section of the wing wide ‘Are You On Target’ initiative. Continue reading

Rain, Rain – Go Away

Despite torrential rain showers, cadets from East + West Sectors have just completed another Field Craft Introduction day at Bramley Training Area. 

The day was attended by cadets from 155 (Maidenhead) Squadron, 381 (Reading) Squadron and 2211 (Bracknell) Squadron and covered the lessons that the cadets need to complete to attend the forthcoming Tactical Leadership Camp being held in November. The lessons included how to cook a ration pack, kit maintenance, hygiene and camouflage techniques. Continue reading
