2507 (Bicester) Squadron

2507 (Bicester) Squadron is one of the largest and most dynamic Squadrons in Thames Valley Wing.

Cadets from 2507 Squadron take part in all RAF Air Cadets activities and the Squadron has an active marching band. We take new recruits into the Squadron on three "intakes" each year, one in January, one in April and one in August.

Air Cadets parade in Windsor to mark their 75th Anniversary

360 Air Cadets and over 80 adult volunteers from across the Thames Valley Air Cadets came together on Sunday, 22nd May to celebrate the Air Training corps (ATC) 75th Anniversary.

Parading through Windsor and past the Guildhall it was an incredible sight to see the Thames Valley Air Cadets march through the streets and onto the Parish Church in all their splendour. Continue reading

Wing Bowling 2015

On Sunday,  29 November 127 cadets and 22 staff arrived at RAF Brize Norton to take part in the annual Wing Ten Pin bowling competition.

With teams on the start line ready to roll Squadrons had the opportunity to enter two teams and also compete for the top male and female spot. As cadets took it turn to line up ready for their strikes perhaps more balls entered the gutters than made it to the centre pin! Continue reading

Flying Officer Alex Pye from 211 (Newbury) Squadron has been a member of the Corps serving as a both a Cadet and as a member of staff at 211 (Newbury) Squadron.

A long term supporter and key member of the Squadron he has undertaken all of the duties asked of him with style and is seen as a corner stone of excellence. He is  also leading light in bringing archery activities –  first to Newbury Squadron through careful negotiation of grant packages – before being an evangelist for the activity Wing-side. Junior leaders Course 16

The Junior Leaders course is a physically demanding and mentally challenging course that runs from September to Easter every year. It is the highest and most challenging level of the leadership courses open to the ATC. The course focuses on developing leadership skills such as command and control, planning, time management, confidence and reaction to unexpected events. It does this through advanced fieldcraft skills such as section attacks, defensive operations and various patrols to assess individuals in 3 roles; Section commander, Section 2IC and a subordinate. Rugby Personality Puma Flight Day

Hot on the heels of his 100th cap as Captain of the New Zealand All Blacks and a convincing 34-16 win over Wales, Richie McCaw took to the skies with RAF Spitfires Rugby 7s player Flight Lieutenant Steve Mills in an RAF Puma 2 before honouring his heritage with a tour of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby. McCaw, who is also a qualified pilot, became an honorary Squadron Leader with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). Continue reading

High Frequency (HF) Field Day

The High Frequency (HF) Field Day is a national ACO radio competition that take place several times per year.  Whilst it is led by the Air Cadets the CCF, SCC and ACF are invited to take part.

Alpine Adventure for Thames Cadets

On 14th February 2014, 33 Air Cadets and 9 staff from the South West Region, including the Thames Valley Wing Contingent of 3 staff and 10 cadets, set off for Alpine Adventure in Bavaria, Germany. The trip has been running in various forms for over 20 years, and provides cadets with the opportunity learn to ski or improve on their current level of skill, under the supervision of qualified ACO Alpine Ski Leaders. The coach made pickups in Exeter, Dorchester, Eastleigh, Chieveley, Langley and Maidstone en route to Dover. Continue reading
