Next Stop The Olympics For Thames Valley Cadets?

The success of the Thames Valley Wing sports teams continued recently with a fantastic haul of trophies at the recent inter-Wing athletics competition.

Held against the backdrop of the forthcoming Olympics, and with an Olympic torch in attendance, carried by the Regional Sports Officer, Squadron Leader Costin, the competition saw cadets from across the South West Region pitted against one another to win the various pieces of silverware on offer and also to gain a place on the team to compete against the other Regions in the Corps later this year at RAF Cosford.

The competition itself was intense, as befits one where the best cadets from each of the Wings are in attendance but the team from Thames Valley Wing stood out from the crowd, performing to the best of their ability throughout and walking away with two trophies and an amazing 7 cadets on the Region Team, representing the 100m, 200m, Long Jump and High Jump and a further 9 on the list as travelling reserves.

Wing Sports Officer, Flight Sergeant Tweddle said “this was a fantastic end to an amazing season, another two trophies for the dedicated and sporting cadets of Thames Valley., I can’t wait until next season.” Recognising the huge amount of effort that goes into developing such a high performing team he added “we couldn’t have done this without the support of the coaching staff, in particular Flying officer Bottoms, Flight Lieutenant Burrell, Warrant Officer Curtis and Civilian Instructors Franks and Pitson.”
