Thames Valley Wing Media Receives National Recognition

The Thames Valley Wing Media Team has been recognised for their hard work throughout 2010 with the presentation of the Media and Communications Award (MACA) for “Best Wing Media Team” which was presented by Commandant Air Cadets at a glittering ceremony held at RAF Cranwell this weekend. Their citation read:-

“Lead by Sqn Ldr Mark Trevena (MCO) and Flt Lt Rob Westerberg (DMCO) the team consists of photographers (Flt Lt Grant Rogers, Flt Lt Julian Rose and CI Neil Parramore), media specialists (Flt Lt Julie Alexander) and an active web team (Sqn Ldr Nick Foy and CI Mark Gray).

Together they produce a wide and varied output for the web, social media, RAF media, Air Cadet news, many merged local town stories (in excess of 100 per year), podcasts and Squadron media tool kits. The team is incredibly active and most Wing events have a team covering it.

Highlights this year have included coverage of C150, the Queens Birthday Flypast and a Squadron visit by the Prime Minister.

In addition to winning this category Thames Valley Wing itself was also nominated for 3 other MACA’s:-

Best Press Article– 136 (Chipping Norton) Sqn for coverage of the PM visit.

Best Recruitment Campaign– 2267 (Brize Norton) Squadron for the RAF Brize Norton Family Day display

Best Multimedia– Wing Media Team for the coverage of the Queens Birthday Flypast with 150 cadets on board a Tristar

Collecting the award on behalf of the team, Sqn Ldr Trevena paid tribute not only to his team but also the many other individuals across the wing who have provided the media opportunities, news releases and other additional support which has helped turn 2010 into a very successful year for Wing media.

The team go forward into 2011 with a number of projects on the drawing board and hope to build upon this years success to ensure that Thames Valley Wing continue to lead the way in the art of media communications.
