Swept Away by White Water Rafting

30 Cadets and 6 Staff members from Burghfield, Newbury, Brize Norton, Woodley, Chipping Norton, Oxford, Reading and Bracknell Squadrons attended a White Water Rafting session run by at Cardiff International White Water Centre.

The morning started with splitting into rafts of 6 people, a brief by our rafting guide. Kit issue of wet suit and personal safety equipment then onto the water. It was rather chilly at around 5 Celsius but this did not stop some Cadets jumping in before we even got into the rafts!

Our guides made for a fun packed experience, working as a team and getting stuck into white water holes filling the raft with water. It was great fun avoiding the Kayakers and getting very wet.

We finished off the session with a well-deserved hot chocolate in the centre Café.

FS Chris Harding of Burghfield Squadron who organised the event said “the Rafting session at Cardiff was highly successful, all the Cadets and Staff thoroughly enjoying themselves. White Water Rafting is not a common Adventure Training activity but one that we will revisit as it went down a storm with the Cadets (and Staff!). I’d like to extend my thanks to the staff at Cardiff International White Water Centre for running the session and also to the ATC staff for transporting the Cadets and their assistance on the day”.
