Thames Valley remember “The Few”

The Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mr Tim Stevenson, was the guest of honour at a sunset ceremony to commemorate the Battle of Britain at the Wing Activity Centre, formely the HQ of 612 Volunteer Gliding School.

The ceremony lead by Flt Lt (Ret’d) Charles Lewis, Wing Chaplain, featured music from a marching band, quarter guard of cadets and the Wing Banner which was flanked by banners from a number of other Thames Valley Squadrons. After refreshments, the gathered guests saw a number of activities on display including adventurous training, skill at arms, a flight simulator, skill at arms and first aid.

A wing spokesperson said:

“This was our inaugural sunset parade and despite a torrent of rain which necessitated a hasty move indoors the evening went without a hitch. The cadets were praised by all of our VIP guests who included the Lord Lieutenant and our very own Regional Commandant, Group Captain Eddie Cole. Such was the success we have started planning for 2018 already!”
