Stalwart ATC Officer Gains Local Award

Flight Lieutenant Mike Kidley, Commanding Officer of 594 Squadron has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to his local community by receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at an awards ceremony hosted by Thame Town Council.

Having devoted a huge part of his life to the Air Cadet Organisation, Mike has been instrumental in ensuring that 594 (Thame) Squadron has become a visible and prominent part of Thame life and that his cadets are able to enjoy some amazing opportunities. Recent successes have included one of his cadets being selected for the prestigious role of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Oxfordshire in 2011, one enjoying  lunch with the Prime Minister, and a further nomination for the John Cunningham Trophy for pilot training.

Speaking after the award, the Mayor of Thame, Councillor Alan Vogel said “Mike Kidley’s many years of service to the young people of Thame and to the town itself, thoroughly deserve public recognition.” Mike added “I was really surprised at this turn of events as I wasn’t expecting it; I was invited as a guest and ended up with a surprise award.”
