Royal Recognition for the Thames Valley

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Mrs Mary Bayliss JP, has presented prestigious awards at a glittering ceremony held at The Madjeski Stadium in Reading.

In addition to an meritorious award presented to the Wing Warrant Officer Jon Lambert, Cadet Flight Sergeant Omar from 211 (Newbury) squadron was appointed as Lord Lieutenants Cadet; a duty which will see him accompany Mrs Bayliss on high profile visits regularly involving members of the Royal Family.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Omar joined January 2008 and has attended 2 RAF Camps and 2 major Wing Activities Camps, gained a gliding scholarship achieving solo standard, and completed his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and is close to completing Silver as well as being awarded qualifications in Lifesaving first Aid and Radio Communications. FS Omar has proved to be  an inspirational young leader with excellent communication skills, he now leads a flight of 25 cadets, and is an outstanding role-model and mentor to his juniors.  In addition, he has worked tirelessly, with his Unit, within the community, frequently helping with fund-raising events, and has supported National Rifle Shooting Competitions at Bisley and horse trials at the Newbury Show.

Warrant Officer Lambert  was appointed the Wing Warrant Officer for Thames Valley Wing covering 27 Units in Berkshire and Oxfordshire in 2006. He has been responsible for drill and discipline standards across the Wing, leading by exemplary personal example, and works tirelessly visiting Units across the Wing and organising weekend courses.  He has been responsible for drill and ceremonial on all the major public Wing Parades, in recent years, including high profile events in Windsor and Oxford. In addition, he regularly attends annual Camps and remains a stalwart of the Wing shooting organisation, including organising Wing teams for Bisley and Inter-Services competitions.
