Band beats a musical retreat

To mark the culmination the national Cadet 150 event, the Thames Valley Wing band joined forces with their counterparts from the Sea Cadet Corps and the Army Cadet Force plus staff and cadets from 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron to perform a traditional Beating the Retreat.

In front of the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire John Harwood DL, the combined band of over 40 cadets marched onto the grass of Oxford’s University Parks and played a number of popular tunes before performing a formal march past and salute. Each band then had the opportunity to perform a solo routine before the ACF contingent closed the event by playing “sunset”.  The Thames Valley Wing performance included a solo routine by one of the junior cadets which truly melted the hearts of the entire audience.

Deputy OC of Thames Valley Wing, Squadron Leader Stephen New MBE said “many thanks to everyone who participated on the day, the way that the Cadets put their own display together was a credit to them”.
